These miniature NFC tags are manufactured using a special process and they contain a very small copper antenna and an NTAG213 type NFC chip.
They are suitable for use on various non-metallic surfaces, such as glass, plastic, wood...
When NFC labels have smaller antennas than 20 mm, they are generally more difficult to read, and therefore it is necessary to check whether they are suitable for use with existing reading equipment or it is necessary to foresee the use of special NFC readers.
Our test showed that these miniature labels are read best by the Syris RD300-H1-G reader, while other NFC readers have a shorter reading distance or do not detect them.
Small NFC tags are particularly suitable for identifying small objects, and for this purpose we can use the chip's 14-digit unique ID number or our own data written into the chip's memory.
These NFC tags incorporate the commonly used NFC chip NTAG213, which works in accordance with the ISO/IEC 14443-3A protocol.
The NTAG213 chip has a 7-byte unique ID number encoded by the chip manufacturer and an EEPROM memory to store up to 144 bytes of data, which is equivalent to a 136-character URL or other string of data.
Memory can be set as "read-only" and therefore locked from future changes. The chip ID is always easily readable by many NFC applications and visible to the public. The chip ID code is typically used as an identifier that links the user to other information within the application database and is typically read by readers as a 14-digit code in hexadecimal format.
Reading test of Miniature NFC stickers
We tested these labels with different types of readers and measured the reading distances. This is not an official test, but it was made to let you know what reading distances you can expect with your app.
