The working range of the cards is affected by numerous factors, such as chip quality, size and shape of antenna, number of windings of antenna, material antenna is made of, etc. Cheapest RFID cards usually have weaker properties, hence their working range is smaller.
EM4200 cards contain chip from EM MICROELECTRONIC, bigger antenna with more windings and have proven to be the best quality cards from 125kHz read-only range.
Reading distance with R80D reader is up to 7 cm (height), and 2cm left or right from reader. Reading distance with these cards with Promag PCR 330 A comes all the way up to 9 cm. Bigger antenna in this card means the orientation of the card doesn’t affect the reading distance. Average distance of reading with TK4100 chips with normal antenna is approximately 4 cm and orientation of the card can affect the reading distance.
