Are you looking for inexpensive NFC cards for your marketing application? Check out our white cards with the most commonly used NFC Type 2 chip NTAG213. These NFC cards are compatible with the ISO/IEC 14443-3A standard, and with the 7-byte long unique ID number they can contain up to 144 bytes of data – which is equal to a 136 character-long URL address.

White NTAG213 cards are made from multiple layers of PVC and die-cut to a credit card dimension 86 x 54 x 0.85 mm. The top layer contains a coating and the cards can be subsequently printed with thermal printers.

For printing smaller quantities (1–500 pcs), we usually use high quality thermal retransfer printers which print each card separately with CMYK colors. This type of card can have multiple artwork variations or personalized data which doesn’t affect the price.

When producing more than 500 printed NTAG213 cards, we use offset printing technology and other professional manufacturing equipment. Beside the CMYK colors, we can print the gold, silver, or Pantone colors as well. These cards can be serialized or personalized during the manufacturing process or later on with thermal printers.

Proximity chips NTAG are made by the trusted chip manufacturer NXP Semiconductors and are the most popular NFC Type 2 chips (inexpensive NFC chips for mass-market applications). 

NFC chips NTAG213 are compatible with the ISO/IEC 14443-3A standard, and they have a preprogrammed 7-byte long unique ID number and a storage capacity of 144 bytes of data which is equal to a 136 character-long URL address. They can be programmed with NFC mobile phones and free applications like NFC Tools and others. The stored information can be locked with a password, and the chip cannot be preprogrammed by other unauthorized users. The data retention time for these chips is 10 years.


NTAG213 chips are typically used for mass-market NFC applications like access control, time attendance, user or asset identification, etc.


NFC cards with a NTAG213 chip are plastic cards with a standard credit card dimension of 86 x 54 x 0.85 mm. They can be used with desktop or other NFC/RFID readers, NFC mobile phones, tablets, etc. and work within proximity distances up to 10 cm (usually up to 5 cm). 

The cards are bright white, without numeration or other printed elements, and a top layer that has a coating which allows the subsequent printing on all kinds of card printers (thermo transfer or thermo retransfer printers).

Options for printing and customizing NTAG213 cards

Serialization or personalization 

If you need white NTAG213 cards with serial numbers or other variables, we will use special thermal printers with monochrome ribbons (usually in black color, white, gold, or silver).

 Our services include:

-    Reading and printing the chip ID numbers in various formats
-    Chip encoding – writing custom data, change keys.

When reading and printing the chip ID numbers on cards, we take extra care that the reading format is correct for the desired application.  

Print with Thermal Retransfer Printers 

When ordering small quantities of printed NTAG213 cards (1-500 pcs), we use high quality thermal retransfer printers which print CMYK colors in the stunning resolution of 600 dpi. The advantage of thermo retransfer printer is that it prints one card at a time and allows us to print even a single card when needed. The disadvantages of thermal retransfer print are high costs of ribbons and slow speed, so it makes it less cost effective for higher quantities.

NTAG213 cards printed with Offset printing technology

When ordering 500 or more printed NTAG213 cards, it is better to print the cards with offset printing technology during the manufacturing process. This kind of printing requires special equipment and can be done only by specialized card manufacturers. The artwork on the front and back sides of a card are printed on thin layers during the manufacturing process, and the layers are later thermically laminated into a plastic sheet with its final card thickness, and die-cut to its final shape.

The typical printed NTAG213 card contains the following layers: 

1.    A clear protective layer with special coating for additional thermal print,
2.    A layer with front side artwork, 
3.    A layer with NTAG213 chip and antenna,
4.    A layer with back side artwork, and
5.    Another clear protective layer with a special coating for an additional thermal print.

Reading test for our cards with NTAG213

The reading distance between the card and the reader is affected by many different factors, like the size of the antennas and quality of the chips, the interferences of metal, and electromagnetic signals, etc.

We have tested the NTAG213 cards with different kinds of readers and measured the reading distances. This is not an official test and was made to inform you what reading distances you may expect with your application.
