ISO 15693 key fobs with an ICODE SLIX chip
(Product ID: 3034)

Documents:
ISO 15693 key fobs with a proximity ICODE® SLIX chip are handy RFID/NFC transponders for fast user authentication in various access control systems, ticketing systems, production management, and other NFC apps that use the equipment supporting the ISO 15693 protocol.

The ICODE SLIX chips are NFC Type 5 chips and cannot be used with the common NFC readers supporting the NFC Type 2 chips. The most noticeable difference are the protocols. ICODE SLIX are working according to ISO/IEC 15693 protocol and don’t work with devices supporting the ISO 14443 protocols.

Therefore the ICODE SLIX chips are not the most commonly used NFC chips, but they have some unique features that make them interesting.

They have 1 kB of memory that can be used for storing product manufacturing information and the data retention time is 50 years. The common NFC Type 2 chips have a smaller memory size and data retention time of just 10 years.

The ICODE SLIX chips can achieve farther reading distances, which can go to up to 1.5 meters. The usual reading distance for other NFC chips is just a couple of centimeters.

For identification purposes, you can use the chip pre-programmed 8-byte long unique identification number, which is the longest ID number used in NFC and RFID chips. Other chips have just a 4-bytes or 7-bytes long ID number.

Our key fobs with ICODE SLIX chip have a popular tear-shaped housing measuring 40 x 32 x 4.5 mm and are available in multiple colors (blue, gray, black, green, red, orange, and yellow).

For orders above 100 pcs., we can do various customization services like printing company logos, serial numbers, or other personalization.

You are welcome to purchase the key fobs from stock or send us an inquiry for customized key fobs.

INFO

These NFC Type 5 key fobs are different than other NFC key fobs because they contain the ICODE® SLIX chip which support the different NFC protocols, the ISO/IEC 15693 and ISO/IEC 18000-3 protocols.

They are interesting because the reading distance for these kind of chips can be from couple of centimeters to 1.5 meters. Actually, we were able to read the chips at a distance of max 10 cm, but we were using just a regular desktop reader for ISO 15693 and for achieving greater distances you have to ask for more information some specialized equipment manufacturer.

Our readers that work with ICODE SLIX chips are the SYRIS RD300-H1-G readers.

The other interesting ICODE SLIX chip feature is that it has 1 kB of memory and when you store your product manufacturing information it will be there for up to 50 years. The common NFC Type 2 chips have a smaller memory size and data retention time of just 10 years.

The 8-bytes long factory pre-programmed ID number is commonly used for product or user authentication and production management in different industries.

Reading test for flexible 25 mm-sized NFC stickers with an ICODE SLIX chip and on-metal protection

Various transponders even containing the same kind of chip achieve different reading distances because they have different size, types, and quality of antennas.

The other factors affecting the reading distance are the strength of the reader signal, the electromagnetic interferences from the environment, the proximity of metallic components, etc.

We tested these stickers with different kinds of readers and measured the reading distances. This is not an official test, but was made to inform you about what reading distances you may expect with your application.

An NFC mobile phone can read the ICODE SLIX chips, but the programming is usually not supported.
