The
ICODE® SLIX chip is a NFC Type 5 chip that works according to the protocols ISO/IEC 15693 and ISO/IEC 18000-3. It has an 8-byte long pre-programmed chip unique ID number and 1 Kbytes of secure memory.
They operate on a frequency of 13.56 MHz and the usual reading distance is up to 10 cm, but with a special equipment you can read these chips at a distance of up to 1.5 m. When programmed, they will store the information for up to 50 years.
The ICODE® SLIX chips were designed for intelligent label applications such as libraries, product authentication, and for production management in different areas of industry, but they are also commonly used for ticketing, user identification, and for access control systems with readers that support the ISO 15693 protocol.
ICODE SLIX chips cannot be read with the common ISO 14443 readers even if they work on the same frequency, but you can use readers that support the ISO 15693 protocol. A NFC mobile phone can read the ICODE SLIX chips, but the programing is usually not supported.
The readers that work with ICODE SLIX chips are the
SYRIS RD300-H1-G readers.

Reading test for flexible 25 mm-sized NFC stickers with an ICODE SLIX chip and on-metal protection
All NFC transponders with an on-metal protection can be used with slightly shorter reading distances compared to the transponders without the protection. We noticed that the reading distance gets even shorter when they are placed on metal surfaces because the metal weakens the readers signal, as well. Sometimes the tags, when applied on metal, cannot be read at all. In these cases, you have to add under a tag some plastic material or wood with a thickness of 5–10 mm.
We tested these stickers with different kinds of readers and measured the reading distances. This is not an official test, but was made to inform you about what reading distances you may expect with your application.
