INFO
Most access control systems use the Wiegand interface to connect card readers to controllers. In practice, the maximum reliable distance is typically 20 to 60 meters.
When the distance between the reader and the controller exceeds this range, our solution allows you to extend it:
Near the reader, a converter transforms the Wiegand signal to RS485.
Near the controller, an identical converter transforms the RS485 signal back to Wiegand.
Using this system and high-quality cabling (e.g., twisted pair, Category 5), transmission distances of 300 meters or more are easily achievable.
The Wiegand-to-RS485 converter uses a high-reliability MCU chip with an integrated watchdog circuit that automatically monitors the device and resets it in case of an error, ensuring continuous operation.
Dimensions: 70 × 41 × 23 mm
Connectors: Industrial-grade terminals for easy and stable wiring
Proven durability — many units have been in continuous operation for over 7 years
Features:
Automatically recognizes most Wiegand formats (from WG26 to WG80), including original card reader protocols
No need for separate transmitter and receiver units — either converter can function on both ends
Ideal for commercial, industrial, and high-security installations
Installation and Use
The amplifier setup includes two Wiegand converters: one connects to the reader, the other to the controller.
D0/D1 of the converter connects directly to D0/D1 of the reader/controller
Power supply can be shared with the reader/controller
The converters are connected via RS485: B-B, A-A
Power Supply
Voltage: 9–15V DC
Can be powered directly by the 12V controller supply
Static working current: approx. 20mA
Can also be powered by an external 9–12V power source
